What's New?

  • The Burbank Senior Artists Colony program, created & delivered by MTSFS, was chosen by the Office for AccessAbility at the National Endowment for the Arts as an Exemplary Program for Best Practices in Lifelong Learning.

  • In order to show people what our elders can do, MTSFS is making a short film at the Burbank Senior Artists Colony. Suzanne Knode, a resident at BSAC, wrote her first screenplay in the writing class and it is now being made into a short film entitled Bandida. It is about an elderly woman who goes into a liquor store to rob it, but during the course of the crime, the woman develops a bond with the older Armenian gentleman that owns the shop, to the point that he roots for her to succeed in robbing him. The making of the film is being documented by This American Life, the NPR radio show hosted by Ira Glass, for their new TV show which will air on Showtime in the fall. Bandida will also be entered in film festivals such as Sundance and stars two MTSFS residents, Helen Miller of BSAC and Sarkis Hagopian of The Piedmont. Bandida is directed by our own Ronny Novick and will be screened in its world premiere at our Radio Cavalcade event on Saturday, October 7 at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The film is Executive Produced by Century Housing and their CEO, Allan Kingston. Further funds for the film were provided by Western Community Housing courtesy of their CEO Graham Espley-Jones.
