MTSFS NAMES SUSAN PRICE VICE PRESIDENT & ADDS FITNESS DIRECTOR

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - More Than Shelter For Seniors® , a nonprofit provider of services and programs to residents of low-income senior apartment communities, today announced that Susan Price will join the organization as Vice President, effective April 1. Additionally, Bob Fitzgerald, has been hired as Fitness Director for the nonprofit.

Price previously served as Vice President at Century Housing, a leader in the development and financing of affordable housing, where she was also Executive Vice President of the Century LIFT (Learning Initiatives For Today) program, a successful after-school tutoring program for at-risk youth.

Price, a senior staff person at Century Housing since 1985, also brings extensive experience in government health and audit programs, fund development, human resources and finance issues, and nutritional counseling. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at Pitzer College and holds a master's degree in public health from UCLA. She is also an accomplished artist and sculptor.

According to Tim Carpenter, Executive Director of MTSFS, Price will be responsible for fund development, nutritional counseling, staff training, art classes, and service delivery improvements.

“Our organization is very fortunate to have someone of Susan Price's experience and reputation for the successful design and delivery of services to at-risk populations - whether low-income seniors or children - joining our team,” Carpenter said. “We have already had the pleasure of working with her on numerous occasions and we look forward to her contribution to our ongoing efforts to serve these groups.”

The company's second addition is Bob Fitzgerald, who will join the team as Fitness Director. Mr. Fitzgerald is a certified personal trainer with more than 40 years of experience in the fitness field. He began his career as a professional wrestler, has run several marathons, including the New York City Marathon, and has taught strength and flexibility training with numerous sports teams. Mr. Fitzgerald is now 70 years old, which gives him a better understanding of how a senior's body reacts to the effects of aging and therapeutic exercise. Mr. Fitzgerald is currently the Fitness Ambassador to Los Angeles for Stanford University Medical Center's 50-Plus Fitness Association.

The MTSFS program serves a total of more than 2,000 low- and moderate-income seniors living at communities located in Ontario, Anaheim, Duarte, Pomona, North Hollywood, Norwalk, Whittier, Azusa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Park, Long Beach and Norwalk. Programming currently includes college-level educational classes, health and wellness programs, bus service, creative arts programs, recreational activities, health education, a food bank, volunteerism, intergenerational mentoring programs, and many others.

MTSFS programs are designed to give low-income seniors an opportunity to continue growing intellectually, creatively and emotionally. Programming focuses on activities that stimulate the mind, body and spirit, to achieve more active engagement in life, help prevent illnesses that could require more costly types of care, and promote residents' ability to continue living healthy and independent lives.
